Proton's zero-access encryption is genuinely excellent — stronger than ours by default. It also has a structural cost: when the server can't read anything, you give up native IMAP (their Bridge app is required on every machine), CalDAV calendar sync, and server-side processing. Proton chose privacy-maximalism; it's a principled choice.
Email.eu makes the workspace trade: open protocols any client can speak, full-text search on the server, a wiki, meetings where guests just click a link — with encryption where it counts: client-side encrypted Drive libraries, and mail at rest under keys you hold on Business. If your threat model demands zero-access everything, choose Proton. If your company needs a Workspace replacement under EU law, that's us.
Proton is Swiss — strong privacy law, but a third country under GDPR, relying on an adequacy decision. For EU public-sector and regulated buyers whose procurement requires an EU-incorporated processor, that distinction is the whole tender. Email.eu is operated by Remails B.V. (Netherlands), hosted on OVHcloud in Paris, with an EU-only supplier chain — EU jurisdiction without an asterisk.
